Challenge

Investigating technical and safety requirements for the design and integration of ammonia fuel storage systems onboard ships — in a sector that still lacks robust regulatory framework and safety guidelines.

HYDRUS Role

Project Coordinator — leading the action technically and managerially and acting as main contact with the European Commission. Technically leading the engineering design of tank storage and auxiliary systems and their integration onboard various ship types.

Project Focus

Engineering design process for tank storage and auxiliary systems, digital twin, life cycle analysis, Risk & Safety assessment of all designs, and prototype demonstration.

Why It Matters

Sets the basis for NH3 fuel storage and integration onboard commercial vessels — enhancing knowledge and experience around one of the most promising alternative fuels of the near-future maritime industry.
