Challenge
Selecting the most efficient Energy Efficiency Technologies (EETs) so that different vessels can comply with EU and IMO emissions reduction targets — and quantifying the combined impact of various EETs on overall vessel performance.
HYDRUS Role
Project Coordinator — leading all technical activities and acting as project manager with the European Commission. HYDRUS is the main designer and integrator of 9 of the 11 total use cases, performing the engineering required for virtual integration of EETs onboard each vessel.
Project Focus
Vessel retrofits and new designs across short sea shipping, oceangoing vessels and inland waterways — covering alternative fuels, wind-assisted propulsion, power conversion, carbon capture, hydrodynamics improvements, decision support system and digital twins.
Why It Matters
Provides robust answers for end users on which EETs best fit different vessel types facing different compliance targets — under a holistic evaluation approach supported by a web-based decision support system.
